During the Summer we are always looking for free, fun, cultural and community based events to invite our readers to go check out. When we were forwarded this information from our friends at P.S. Resorts about their Forever Marilyn Outdoor Movie Screenings we thought it sounded fabulous! Seems like the perfect Friday evening event to bring a group of friends, blankets, drinks to and just have a great time under the stars (literally).

Make sure to show up early to reserve your spot because Marilyn fans don’t play hard to get!

About the Film:

“Like thousands of other Manhattanites, Tom Ewell annually packs his wife (Evelyn Keyes) and children off to summer vacation, staying behind to work at the office. This particular summer, the lonely Ewell begins fantasizing about the many women he’d foresworn upon getting married (in one of the fantasies, Ewell and Marguerite Chapman parody the beach rendezvous in From Here to Eternity). He is jolted back to reality when he meets his new neighbor–luscious model Marilyn Monroe. Inviting Monroe to dinner, Ewell intends to sweep her off her feet and into the boudoir. Things don’t quite work out that way, thanks to Ewell’s clumsiness (and essential decency) and Monroe’s naivete. Still, Ewell becomes convinced that his impure thoughts will somehow be transmitted to his vacationing wife and to the rest of the world, leaving him wide open for scandal and ruination. In the original play, the husband and the next-door neighbor did have an affair, but both play and film arrived at the same happy ending, with Ewell and his missus contentedly reunited at summer’s end. Featured in the cast of The Seven Year Itch are Robert Strauss as a lascivious handyman, Sonny Tufts as Evelyn Keye’s former beau, Donald MacBride as Ewell’s glad-handing boss, and veteran Broadway funny man Victor Moore in a cameo as a nervous plumber.”

August 3rd – The Seven Year Itch. The 1955 Billy Wilder-directed classic which contains the famous scene of Monroe’s skirt being blown up over a subway grate and the inspiration for the sculpture, Forever Marilyn

The films will start at dusk, or approximately 8:30 pm. Seating is first-come, first- served, and movie-goers are encouraged to bring blankets or low lawn chairs. As a reminder, no alcohol is allowed in Palm Springs public parks. Free parking is available on site; please enter from Tahquitz Canyon Way at Belardo Road (east of Palm Canyon Drive).

About Forever Marilyn

Forever Marilyn is the 26 ft. tall, 34,3OO lbs. sculpture of Marilyn Monroe by American artist and Johnson & Johnson heir Seward Johnson inspired by the famous photograph taken by Bernard of Hollywood from the film, The Seven Year Itch. The dramatic sculpture Forever Marilyn is extremely realistic – especially in the skin tones. Her unique patina involves 1O layers of hues with a matte finish except for the glossy elements of her lips, toe nails and the pearlized finish on the earrings. A passion for detail and an uncanny realism of pose are qualities often associated with the works of sculptor Seward Johnson. Well-known for recreating life in our times in vivid realism, with this work the artist explores in three dimensions why some visual images so captivate us that they become larger than life. These subjects outlive their own time periods and come to stand for something metaphoric and grand. Such is this most recent release from the hands of artist Seward Johnson, which arrived in Chicago for its international debut last year. Resorts. “Outdoor movie screenings seemed just right with our warm summer evenings and the iconic Forever Marilyn sculpture in a pose from “The Seven Year Itch” as a backdrop.
